WBHS Bruin Sinfonia String Orchestra

The WBHS Bruin Sinfonia String Orchestra has been recognized both regionally and nationally for its high standard of excellence. This particular ensemble has received an overall “Superior” rating in every District IV Orchestra Festival since 1990. They have also received numerous honors and awards from various Festivals across the Country. They were awarded the “Grand Champion for the 2000 Season” from Music Festivals of America, a Gold rating and “Orchestra Champion” for the Heritage Music Festival in New York for 2001 and Florida 2003. They were awarded 1st place Orchestra in the Myrtle Beach, SC Fiesta-Val Competition in 2004 and in 2007. They have also received another “Gold” rating and an overall 1st place Orchestra Award at the 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 Heritage Music Festivals in Annapolis, MD, Philadelphia, PA, Atlanta, GA. In 2008, 2012, 2015, and 2018, the Bruin Sinfonia Orchestra performed at the world famous Carnegie Hall in NYC and gave its debut performance in 2009 at the Main Concert Hall at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. In recent years, the WBHS Bruin Sinfonia won either Grand Champion or 1st place in every competition entered. This ensemble has also performed by invitation at the Virginia Music Educators State Conference and is the only ensemble in Chesapeake Public Schools to appear twice.
